What is a project you are most proud of? Estimator and Project Manager for the re-roof of the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) 525 feet high building and over 8 acres of roof.

What inspires you? Perseverance to overcome a challenge.

What is some great advice you have received? “Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction and skillful execution.”

Why did you choose this career path? 32 years ago, while running a construction company, an offer to estimate at a roofing company was presented to me and I have been in the industry ever since.

What you like about your job/industry: Developing plans and executing the most difficult projects and delivering a quality roof system with minimal or no disruptions to the client and/or facility.

RYAN UPCHURCH Project Manager/Estimator
Years in the Industry: 10+
Specialty area of expertise: New construction projects, re-roofs for commercial and industrial facilities such as retail, condominiums, apartments and manufacturing facilities.

Why did you choose this career path? My family has been in the commercial roofing industry my entire life. I started learning the trade at 15 with shingles, and at 18 I progressed to TPO, PVC, SBS and EPDM. I decided to take that knowledge and apply it to the best of my abilities in the pursuit of estimating and project managing.

What is a project you are most proud of? Estimating and managing projects exceeding 1 million dollars.
DiMucci Twin Towers in Daytona Beach, FL (two 20 story high rises with limited access)

Seaside at Anastasia in St. Augustine, FL (70,600 sf multi-structure condominium, installing standing seam metal roofing along with SBS modified flat roofs)

What inspires you? Having a hand in the ever-growing infrastructure here in Florida.

What is some great advice you have received? “When everything seems to be going against you, remember that airplanes take off against the wind, not with it”

What you like about your job/industry? I enjoy providing clients a clean, functional roof and the ease of mind they receive knowing their roof troubles are over.

Why did you choose this career path? Family Business — Father and Grandfather were in the roofing business

What inspires you? Relationship building — creative project management

What is some great advice you have received? Listening is a salesman’s best tool.

What do you like about your job/industry? The creativity while preparing quotes and proposals. The competitive bidding nature of the business.
